Angel blood by John Singleton
Stumbled upon a really creepy book named Angel Blood, which is written from the perspective of a deformed child X-ray who lived in a secluded labortory known as Bin Linnie Lodge with three others of the same kind.
X-ray -Born with down-syndrome which led to photo-sensitive semi-transparent see through skin (Thus came his name) Has chapped lips which bleed non stop
C.Angel- Hands are on her shoulders, like wings, thus came her name.
Cough Cough- Coughs non stop due to abnormally small lungs.Bald because hair drops.Cleverest among the four.
Lights Out- Has no eyes, thats why her name...(Wait!Being blind is one thing, having no eyes is another) Stopped growing from the age of 3 years. She morses, meaning she talked using her hands.
These four were kept in a secluded labortory where a sinister doctor tries various experiments on them, and also operating them to remove some of their body parts for his patients.There were seventeen other deletes( Children who were deformed) at first but were soon taken away one by one by the doctor.
All of them were tagged with number codes and were made to watch 'the natural world' on television, showing deaths in the outside world to discourage them from trying to escape.
And the whole story is written in the so called 'language' of these deletes, because they did not undergo proper education and sorta came out with a language of their own. Here are some parts of the story:
'What if the eye dies?I can feel the shakers again. C.Angel puts her arm round me. She says take one of my tabs.Lights Out joins us.We do Jesus Hands.We huddle.'
Tabs are like sleep-inducers for them while Jesus Hands is an action whereby they make a roof above their head (I only got a few of the meanings of their words after reading the first 70 pages)
Heres another part:
'I slide off the bed and walk slowly to the washes.I've daftied Tin Lid.I've saved the weather eye.Sometimes when we're sure the cameras are red-off and we're not tranked out Lights Out stands on her bed, puts her finger through the eye so she can feel the weather.'
Washes meant the bathroom.Daftie was what they called someone who is stupid.The weather eye was actually a hole in which they peep through to see the outside world.Red-off is when the cameras are switched off and tranked literally means drugged.
'I haven't asked CC about the sky boat recently...Maybe its just a story like Jack The Cat.Except he's real'
The sky boat meant the moon.Jack The Cat was a spirit only the deletes could see and treat as a friend.Duh they dont know anyth about spirits...
Eccentric hur?And they call the alarm clock Maiden China.Obviously they dont know whats a clock for and Maiden China originated from Made in China, which was found at the back of the clock.
